The B vitamins today include eight water-soluble nutrients known as vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, biotin, and folic acid. Unlike other vitamins, the B vitamins cannot be stored in the body for extended periods and must therefore be supplied daily through food. The only exception is vitamin B12, which can be stored in the liver.

The B vitamins sometimes interact very closely and are interdependent in their effects. Therefore, it is important to ensure an adequate supply of all B vitamins. This is not always easy: since B vitamins are distributed across all food groups, only a very balanced diet provides all B vitamins in sufficient quantities. Consequently, even large-scale nutritional studies repeatedly reveal significant gaps in B vitamin intake.

Directly bioactive forms of all eight B vitamins ensure optimal and direct bioavailability and efficacy. The B vitamins used are available as highly effective bioidentical forms and active coenzyme forms. The cofactors choline, betaine, inositol, PABA, and NADH, formerly also considered B vitamins, further ensure improved bioavailability and efficacy of all B vitamins in the complex.

In addition to the eight essential B vitamins, there are several other vitamin-like nutrients that act as cofactors and interact closely with the B vitamins and were therefore themselves considered B vitamins until recently.

• Choline (formerly vitamin B4) is mainly found in the form of phosphatidylcholine (lecithin) and acetylcholine.
• Betaine (as trimethylglycine/TMG) is another activated form of choline.
• Inositol (formerly vitamin B8) is found mainly in the brain, liver and kidneys.
• PABA (formerly vitamin B10) acts as a coenzyme and is involved in the formation of red blood cells via vitamin B9.
• NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride, active form of vitamin B3 (Niacin), also called "coenzyme 1", is involved in numerous redox reactions of cell metabolism.
