A bracelet helps save the oceans and protects all marine life and habitats

With each bracelet, 2.3 kg of garbage is removed from the ocean and a mangrove is planted.

Mangroves are salt-tolerant, evergreen tree and shrub species found along tropical and subtropical coastlines and estuaries. Mangroves are the backbone of the coastal ecosystem. Their roots literally hold everything together. This creates a protective barrier that reduces the force and height of waves. This effectively protects coasts from storms and flooding. A 100-meter-wide mangrove belt can reduce the wave height of a tsunami by two-thirds.

How does 4ocean work?

4ocean volunteers collect plastic waste from the beach or fish it out of the water with nets. Where possible, the plastic waste is recycled on-site. The rest is taken to waste disposal facilities. 4ocean now operates in 16 countries and employs 150 people, including volunteers and many fishermen. The organization has also launched its own educational program to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic in the ocean. With each new bracelet, in addition to funding its own work, the organization also supports another environmental project!

4ocean founders Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze came up with the idea when they were shocked to see how much plastic was floating in the ocean during a vacation in Bali. In just three years, the volunteers have already collected 5,000 tons – and more tons are being added every day...
