When you purchase a Ghost Net bracelet, 4ocean and its volunteers remove 2.3 kilograms of trash from the ocean and coastlines worldwide. You also help raise awareness of a huge global problem, which this special bracelet "dedicates" to.
Abandoned, lost, and discarded fishing gear, or ALDFG for short, is the deadliest form of plastic pollution in our oceans today—and human intervention is the only way to get it out.
Made from genuine pieces of ghost nets recovered by our professional full-time captains and crews, the 4ocean Ghost Net Bracelet funds the removal of ghost gear from our oceans and helps raise awareness of their impact on marine life.
4ocean volunteers collect plastic waste from the beach or fish it out of the water with nets. Where possible, the plastic waste is recycled on-site. The rest is taken to waste disposal facilities. 4ocean now operates in 16 countries and employs 150 people, including volunteers and many fishermen. The organization has also launched its own educational program to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic in the ocean. With each new bracelet, in addition to funding its own work, the organization also supports another environmental project!
4ocean founders Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze came up with the idea when they were shocked to see how much plastic was floating in the ocean during a vacation in Bali. In just three years, the volunteers have already collected 5,000 tons – and more tons are being added every day...
