When you purchase an Osborne Reef bracelet, 4ocean and its volunteers remove 2.3 kilograms of trash from the oceans and coastlines worldwide. You also help raise awareness of a huge global problem, to which this special bracelet is dedicated. Synthetic rubber tire wear and tear are the biggest polluters of the oceans. They account for between 30 and 50% of all plastic particles found there. This pollution threatens the habitat of all marine animals and plants, and thus, of course, the climate and life on Earth. One more reason for 4Ocean (and us) to continue our commitment.
The Osborne Reef Bracelet features a braided recycled plastic bracelet with a fully adjustable fit. Crumbs from the salvaged tires are embedded in a 12 mm stainless steel medallion and sealed with clear resin. It represents your commitment to ocean conservation. Wear it as a reminder to curb your plastic habits, live a more sustainable lifestyle, and encourage others to take action to protect what they love.
4ocean volunteers collect plastic waste from the beach or fish it out of the water with nets. Where possible, the plastic waste is recycled on-site. The rest is taken to waste disposal facilities. 4ocean now operates in 16 countries and employs 150 people, including volunteers and many fishermen. The organization has also launched its own educational program to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic in the ocean. With each new bracelet, in addition to funding its own work, the organization also supports another environmental project!
4ocean founders Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze came up with the idea when they were shocked to see how much plastic was floating in the ocean during a vacation in Bali. In just three years, the volunteers have already collected 5,000 tons – and more tons are being added every day...
