When you buy a Bali Riptide bracelet, 4ocean and its volunteers remove 2.3 kilos of trash from the ocean and coasts worldwide, not only reminding us to protect the waters we love – but also glowing in the dark, bringing a little sea magic to your everyday style.
The successful story of 4Ocean began in Bali. The two founders from Florida decided on the beaches of Bali that only humans can do something to combat man-made plastic pollution. Together with the traditional craftsmanship of their Balinese hosts, they formed the idea of using bracelet sales to finance the cleanup of beaches and coasts. They formulated the "One Pound Promise" - the promise to remove half a kilo of plastic pollution with every bracelet sold. Today it is 5 pounds, or 2.3 kilos! To date, they have fulfilled this promise around 22 million times: 4Ocean has already collected over 11 million kilograms of plastic and has largely been recycled, and the number is growing every day. The collected material is now even used directly to make jewelry and similar products.
The Bali Collection features flat and wide braided bracelets made from fibers crafted from 100% recycled plastic. A Bali bracelet represents your commitment to ocean conservation. Wear it as a reminder to curb your plastic habits, live a more sustainable lifestyle, and encourage others to take action to protect what they love.
4ocean volunteers collect plastic waste from the beach or fish it out of the water with nets. Where possible, the plastic waste is recycled on-site. The rest is taken to waste disposal facilities. 4ocean now operates in 16 countries and employs 150 people, including volunteers and many fishermen. The organization has also launched its own educational program to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic in the ocean. With each new bracelet, in addition to funding its own work, the organization also supports another environmental project!
4ocean founders Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze came up with the idea when they were shocked to see how much plastic was floating in the ocean during a vacation in Bali. In just three years, the volunteers have already collected 5,000 tons – and more tons are being added every day...
