The federal government's nitrate report, published yesterday, once again confirms the significant contamination of groundwater and drinking water in areas with high levels of manure or artificial fertilizer input. Nationwide, 28% of monitoring stations measured excessive levels , i.e., above the permissible 50 mg/l. Northern Germany, from North Rhine-Westphalia to Saxony-Anhalt, is particularly affected, with up to 60% of monitoring stations affected in some cases. It should be noted that the maximum contamination for infants is only 10 mg/l.
A change in the law is now intended to provide long-term relief, although this is contrary to the interests of conventional farmers.
We recommend a reverse osmosis drinking water filter for all affected individuals. The H2O systems (manufacturer: ROWA, Osnabrück) reliably filter out at least 85-90% of nitrate and, of course, also remove all other harmful substances such as medication residues, limescale, aluminum, etc.
Alternatively, you can use a Carbonit drinking water filter and a special ion exchange cartridge. Activated carbon filters alone, whether in block or granular form, cannot remove nitrate and other dissolved salts.
